Kanye West and Kid Cudi seem to be up to something. The two are rumored to be shooting a video project in the Middle East, in Qatar.

Kanye and a film crew were spotted in the nation late last week, outside the capital of Doha in Education City. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the country's Doha Film Institute is helping back the project. And according to student sightings, Kanye, along with desert animals like camels, was spotted on set. Other sources say that locals were used as extras and that they were dressed in a "culturally sensitive" manner.

A source said that the project will be similar to Yeezy's 2010 short film, "Runaway," which was released in the lead-up to his album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

"It's going to be approximately 30 minutes long, in between a long-form music video and short film," the source said. "Kanye conceived the story, which is set in the Gulf. It's supposed to showcase the beauty of the region, a piece that's culturally sensitive and embraces the customs and traditions of the region."

Further information about Cudi's role in the flick wasn't given, which seems to be the way the rapper wants it. An eyewitness told the Doha News that "the whole thing was pretty top-secret."

The video shoot comes as fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music compilation, which may coincide with the release of this super-secret short film. And with Kid Cudi appearing on the album, it would make sense for the two to be doing something together.

While there is still no release date for the G.O.O.D. album, Mannie Fresh shared that it's all "pretty close" to finished. "The cool thing about G.O.O.D. Music is it's a bunch of great ideas and I'm one of those ideas," he explained. "[Kanye's] trying to find the most talented producers, most talented artists, put 'em all in a room and say, 'Go for it. Y'all energy, like whatever is creative to y'all.' "

PSA: Nintendo 3DS firmware update now live in North America

Image

If your 3DS' home screen is looking a little too cluttered, then today's your lucky day. Nintendo is rolling out the firmware update that adds folders to your folder (You've gotta fold the console closed, geddit?). The only other change evident so far is a redesigned eShop interface that makes better use of the screen's real estate, but pssh, who cares? It's all about the folders for us.

First image of Sony NEX-F3 leaked, outs 16.1 MP sensor

Image

Leave it to photography buffs to leak product shots that are decidedly unblurry, if poorly framed. Dpreview forum goer Bibogue outed a sneak peek at the Sony NEX-F3, a mirrorless shooter that seems to be poised to replace the NEX-C3. The leaked picture appears to reveal a 16.1 megapixel sensor, a built in flash and a 180-degree tilting screen, and Bibogue says the unit sports a new peaking level feature to help fine-tune manually focused shots. The new unit seems to retain its predecessor's proprietary accessory connector as well, so prospective buyers should choose their peripherals wisely.

[Thanks, Sjoer]

European Patent Office invalidates IPCom 3G patent, gives good news to Nokia and HTC

European Patent Office invalidates IPCom 3G patent, gives good news to Nokia and HTCIPCom's had its way with many mobile manufacturers, including Nokia and HTC, by suing them for patent infringement in German courts. However, the Finnish and Taiwanese firms got good news today when the European Patent Office invalidated one of its 3G patents -- the very same one it used to obtain an injunction against HTC. IPCom's not going away quietly, however, as it plans to appeal the EPO's decision. That means that the folks in Espoo and Taoyuan City aren't out of the woods yet -- but it should at least give them a bit more bargaining power in negotiations to end their (seemingly endless) legal spats.

Turntable.fm founder hints at Android app 'coming soon'

Android Central

Turntable.fm is one of those services that has caused a pretty big stir since its inception, at least in the US where the service is available anyway. When it comes to mobile, iOS has had an application for a while now while the Android faithful have been left waiting. The company's Chairman and co-founder Seth Goldstein has recently given cause for hope at the recent Rethink Music event.

During a session in which he sat on a panel, Goldstein stated that "[an] Android [Turntable.fm app] is coming pretty soon." That's right, that old favorite date, coming soon

While it doesn't really give us anything to go on, it is at least an indication that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It'd be great if the planned international expansion happened prior to its launch, especially as the UK -- sorry folks, being selfish -- and Canada are likely to be one of the first expanded markets.

ASUS Zenbook Primes with 1080p IPS panels and (probably) Ivy Bridge are real, coming to Taiwan in June

Refreshed ASUS Zenbooks with 1080p IPS panels and (probably) Ivy Bridge are real, coming to Taiwan in June

We've already seen spec sheets suggesting that ASUS's 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch Zenbooks are being fattened up for a major update, but now Engadget Chinese has glimpsed the new devices in their cold aluminum flesh. Tentatively called Zenbook Primes, or the UX21A and UX31A respectively, they both have 1920 x 1080 IPS panels with a matte finish and excellent viewing angles (please, ignore the dumb 1024 x 768 screen-saver in the pic, it doesn't do it justice). Judging from the fact that ASUS refused to let us go hands-on in case we identify the internals, we can be pretty confident that these beauties are running on next-gen ULV Ivy Bridge processors, which -- unlike their more powerful brethren -- have yet to be formally announced. We asked if there'd be room for discrete graphics, such as one of NVIDIA's new Kepler mobile GPUs for Ultrabooks, and were told that "anything is possible." Responses were equally vague when it came to global availability, because apparently the devices are awaitng clearance from Intel. All we know is that they should be out in Taiwan in June, likely with similar price tags to their predecessors.

Nokia reportedly delays Lumia 900 release in the UK, cites high US demand

Image

Despite remaining mum on how many Lumia 900s it's moved in the US, Nokia has been raving about how it's trying to keep up with demand for the flagship Windows Phone device. Consider us unsurprised, then, that the company has apparently delayed the phone's previous April 27th release date in the UK to "around May 14th," citing a need to keep the device stocked in the States. The news comes from V3.co.uk, which got the information from a Nokia spokesperson referring specifically to retailer Phones 4u. Hit up the links below if you'd like to catch the full spiel, and why not check out our review of a second time to solidify your decision while you wait.
