Frieze Collapse at the Trevi Fountain in Rome Signals Latest Government Restoration Headache

Frieze Collapse at the Trevi Fountain in Rome Signals Latest Government Restoration Headache

After several stone leaves fell off the top frieze of the Trevi Fountain in Rome earlier this month, visitors and city residents raised concerns over the fate of one of the eternal city's most iconic landmarks. The fountain, made even more famous by Fellini's La Dolce Vita is a destination for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year who toss a coin and wish a quick return to Rome.

The Trevi Fountain, which originally dates back to 1732, is the latest member in an increasing rash of scandals surrounding Italy's major landmarks that are left in disrepair due to lack of restoration funds. For example, the multiple incidents at the archeological site of Pompeii or the falling piece of Giotto's bell tower in Florence that narrowly missed hitting a pedestrian on the head earlier this year brought the issue to the forefront.

Police temporarily closed the fountain to visitors after the initial damage, and restoration experts uncovered an additional five pieces of frieze in imminent danger of detachment. Improperly conducted past restoration efforts, the erosive effects of Rome's freak snow storm this winter, and the impermanent style of building have all been named as potential causes for the damage.

While some have suggested that the coins thrown into the fountain, which have been estimated to range from anything between ?200 to ?3000 per night, could sponsor the restoration, these funds already benefit local charities.

Acqua Claudia, a Roman mineral water bottling company, has stepped in to sponsor the restoration efforts at an estimated cost of ?200,000, as they felt the fountain was an important symbol of water in Rome and thus intimately related to their brand.

[Updated] Yahoo?s Media Vision Comes Into Focus: Three Hires, More Music And Video Partnerships (And Acquisitions?)

CrowdOptic_1Yesterday the WSJ outlined how Yahoo's new, interim CEO Ross Levinsohn is taking the company back to its earlier roots of focusing on advertising around its media properties, which collectively see 167 million monthly online users. The last 24 hours indicates that Yahoo is trying to move fast on that idea. Today?the company announced three executive media hires, and TechCrunch has had a look in on a new interactive mobile TV service its using to enhance its video offerings. And there is more. The news comes less than a day after Yahoo announced a global deal with?Spotify?for music content, which will see the company integrate Spotify music across its media properties and create content for the Spotify platform, but also move away from offering a music platform of its own. Update: after this article was posted last night, Yahoo added another music partner to the mix: Clear Channel and its online radio service I Heart Radio.

Samsung brings out WB100 camera with 26x lens for zoom-loving Brits

Samsung brings out WB100 camera with 26x lens for zoomloving Brits

Samsung has been quiet on the superzoom camera front, but it's leaping back into the fray with the WB100. The camera doesn't have the longest zoom we've seen, but with a 26x lens and a wide-angle 22.3mm minimum zoom, odds are that just about anything you come across during vacation will fit into the frame. A choice to use AA batteries instead of a lithium-ion pack also emphasizes that focus on travelers. We're otherwise looking at a very deliberately middle-of-the-road camera with a 16-megapixel sensor, ISO 80 to 1,600 sensitivity (3,200 if you like 3-megapixel photos) and 720p movie making. The company doesn't have pricing, nor word as to which countries get the WB100 treatment outside of the UK -- for now, you're most likely to see this camera slung around a suntanned British neck in Ibiza.

Internet Marketing and SEO in Hudson Falls, NY | Business ...

The number one way for someone to find a website in Hudson Falls, NY is by going through a search engine.?Google is the most popular, so it?s important to target their results far more than other search engines. Businesses that use internet marketing and SEO have a clear advantage over those that don?t. Here are some incredible stats about search engines that you may not know:

  • 75% of Americans use search engines on a regular basis.
  • 56% of all Americans are using one every single day.
  • 40% of all search engine searches are for the nearest businesses and services.
  • 54% of Americans?frequently search on the internet instead of the telephone book to locate the nearest services.
  • 92% of all neighborhood Hudson Falls, NY searches will eventually convert into a sale.

?

The whole search engine industry used to be about very short ?keywords? that would lead people to finding the website that they were looking for. Everyone used to merely type things like ?Hudson Falls Real Estate? into a search engine, check out the first handful of results then make a decision.

Businesses who fail to use internet marketing and SEO will have a difficult time getting new customers.

Nonetheless,?these times buyers have become much better at searching with Google, so keywords have progressively become longer so as to return much more relevant results. For instance, instead of just ?Hudson Falls Real Estate? which may give us some good websites for that keyword, we might be looking for something a little more specific.

Therefore, we might type ?Hudson Falls Low Price Apartments?. The reason we would do this is because we?re fed up searching through websites that don?t offer us the chance to see any low price real estate, so we?re searching using Google rather than merely clicking on various websites.

This kind of mentality has revitalized the world of small businesses online. Instead of just searching for a product or service, people now look for a niche product or service in a particular area. It means that, instead of massive chains dominating the search results, small business websites that use internet marketing and SEO?(even in Hudson Falls) are flourishing.

Without it, you simply aren?t going to understand how to get your website found on the first page of Google when local customers search for your product or service. The competition won?end up being that fierce considering you will be competing for much more specific keywords, but you?ll still need to be able to be found by these Hudson Falls buyers in order to succeed.

With more people moving towards local searches, you?re going to need to target your internet marketing?to specific keywords and locations. If you fail to do it, you?ll be competing with the major players within your industry nationally, and it?s a battle you almost certainly won?t win.

Find out exactly how we can help get you a lot more leads, much more customers, and much more money in a hassle free and straightforward way. Call 518-595-3098 right now for a free consultation and online evaluation. Hudson Falls, NY internet marketing and SEO services by?James W Sweeney.

Samsung Galaxy S III for T-Mobile review

DNP Samsung Galaxy S III for TMobile review

If three's a crowd, the Samsung Galaxy S III party in the US is about to get pretty stuffy. Having already reviewed AT&T and Sprint's variants -- not to mention the original I9300 before them -- we're now ready to put a third iteration through its paces, this time from the country's fourth-largest carrier, T-Mobile.

Of course, the phone itself needs no grand introduction, as it's fast become the new darling of the smartphone world. And rightfully so, in many respects: it's the first high-end device to launch on all four major mobile operators in the US (a feat in and of itself), and it's done so with minimal carrier branding, hardware changes or bloatware levies. It is, in essence, an unadulterated handset. The reason this piece of news is so wondrous is that it opens up your ability to choose your phone service based on the network, not on the actual phone each individual carrier offers.

Sadly, the big tradeoff here is the loss of an Exynos quad-core processor in exchange for a Snapdragon S4 dual-core chipset and additional RAM. Join us as we take a deeper look at the T-Mobile Galaxy S III. Is it the best phone on the network? Is it worth shelling out $280 (with a two-year contract) for the 16GB model or $330 for 32GB? How well does it perform? This and more answers await you in our full review below.

Health care ruling to end one campaign mystery

(AP) ? One of the biggest factors in the fight for the White House is still a mystery. But that will change on Thursday.

The Supreme Court's ruling on President Barack Obama's sweeping federal health care law will shape the contours of the presidential campaign. Ahead of Thursday's expected decision, Obama and Republican rival Mitt Romney are both primed to use the ruling ? whatever it is ? for political gain.

Neither candidate has any direct influence over the decision or any prior insight into how the justices will rule. The court may uphold the health care law, strike it down or deem the requirement that most Americans carry health insurance unconstitutional while keeping other aspects of the law in place.

Qualcomm Extends Vuforia Augmented Reality Platform To The Cloud (Video)

vuforia3Qualcomm announced an upgrade to their Vuforia Augmented Reality platform on Wednesday. Vuforia is a platform that focuses on using images as the "targets" to launch an AR experience, rather than requiring consumers to scan QR codes or other glyphs. So instead of scanning a barcode, you just scan a specific picture to start the AR experience on your mobile phone or tablet (it could launch a video, or a 3D model, etc.) There are many AR companies that employ this method of recognizing images. That is nothing new. The difference here is that the old version of Vuforia required the database of images that are the "targets" to be stored locally on the device running their software and therefore had a limited capacity of storage (around 80 images). This new system allows developers to continue using local app storage of image targets but they can also now implement programatic, API-based access to up to 1 million targets using a new cloud database system.
