Police seek computer used by teen shot dead by dad

(AP) ? An attorney for a Connecticut man who fatally shot his 15-year-old son, thinking he was an intruder, said Thursday that state police want access to a computer and phone used by the teen to try to determine why he was out at night wearing a ski mask and armed with a knife.

Gene Zingaro said his client Jeffrey Giuliano is cooperating with the request because he and his wife want the same answers.

Police say Giuliano went outside with a gun around 1 a.m. on Sept. 27 when his sister called to say someone was trying to break into her house next door in New Fairfield. Authorities say Giuliano saw a masked person holding a shiny object come toward him in a threatening manner and shot him.

He later was told the person he killed was his son Tyler. Police said the weapon was a knife.

Police are investigating the shooting and declined to comment on details. No charges have been filed.

State police made the request Wednesday and plan to view the family computer, probably next week, Zingaro said. He said they want to see any emails, posts to social media and visits to websites made by the boy.

"In my opinion, the focus of the investigation has shifted from what happened on the night of the shooting to why Tyler was where he was and what he was doing, what his intentions were," Zingaro said.

He said he believes his client fired at least four shots but is not sure how many hit the boy. Police have said Tyler died of multiple gunshot wounds.

At the time, Giuliano thought the masked person had a gun, Zingaro said.

"My client felt like his life was in imminent danger at the time he fired," he said. "In my opinion, Jeff Giuliano had a fear of being shot at the time he fired his weapon."

Zingaro said he does not expect any charges to be filed against Giuliano. Police spent about six hours interviewing him Friday in his attorney's office and have not asked to re-interview him, Zingaro said.

The attorney said Giuliano was aware at the time that there had been reports of a break-in and a sexual assault in the same town. He said that had even prompted Giuliano to call a family meeting to make sure his children took precautions.

"Weighing heavily on his mind was the fact that there was a forced entry rape a day or two before in New Fairfield," Zingaro said. "In my estimation, Jeff Giuliano felt like he had happened upon maybe the same intruder."

Giuliano also was concerned the person might have already been to his house, Zingaro said.

Zingaro said Giuliano had shouted several commands before the shooting, but he would not disclose what his client said. Asked if Tyler responded, he said, "not audibly."

Candidates get confrontational on Social Security, Medicare

The first presidential debate took a more confrontational tone as questions shifted from general comments on the economy to the future of Social Security and Medicare.

"The basic structure is sound," President Barack Obama said of Social Security and Medicare. "You don't need a major structural change to make sure Social Security is there for the future."

On entitlements, Obama also took a veiled shot at Mitt Romney's criticism of the 47 percent of Americans the GOP nominee says do not pay federal income taxes. "The name itself implies some sense of dependency and these are people who have worked hard," Obama said.

Romney was quick to fire back with his own pointed comments. Responding to Obama's accusation that Romney's economic plan would send jobs overseas, Romney said,"I've been in this business for 25 years and I have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe I need to get a new accountant because you don't get a tax break for shipping jobs overseas."

Romney then moved on to Medicare, saying Obamacare would adversely affect senior citizens. "We have 50 percent of doctors who say they won't take anymore Medicare patients," Romney said. "I can't understand how you can cut Medicare $716 million dollars for current recipients."

"First of all, I think it's important for Governor Romney to present this plan that he says will only affect people in the future. It's a voucher program," Obama countered. "If you're 54 or 55, you might want to listen, because this will affect you."

And Obama closed his turn with a favorite one-liner. "I have become fond of this term, Obamacare," he said.

Daytrading, Stock Trading, Investing and Forex Trading ? Trend ...

Many thousands of traders are welcoming trading robots to do the analytic work for them. There are some stunning trading robots out there which are rapidly changing the way that pro traders perform their analysing, too, so here is the right way to find one of the very finest of the finest. This permits you to simply invest accordingly once the programme finds a good trading opportunity in order that you can make the cash from the exchange that you would like and safely at that, but do it on your own plan and on your own time. These programs only target penny stocks and shares and deliver literally the best stock picks to be found in the market because penny shares have a name of incredibly jumping in worth in an exceedingly short term due to their less expensive costs leave them open to more trading influence from the outside.

* There are new technologies out there now that will considerably raise your chances for successful securities dealing. The best thing about the stockmarket trading software is the proven fact that they're programmed to recognise the trends and advise you of which stocks are probably going to be good to make an investment in. They're also comparatively cheap and easy to utilize. You now don't have to become fixated on the newest market stories. If you're think about making an investment in a stockmarket trading software then it'd be to your benefit to learn all you are able to about the varied type and the good points and bad points of every one before purchasing one. No more difficult prediction about which shares to get and a lot less mistakes of which can often be rather expensive.

The system itself will tell you which stocks are ?winners? based mostly on its careful research into the market. Blend this with the best stockmarket dealing system and you have got a prodigious investment tool at your command. For that reason, I love to say that automated stockmarket dealing systems and penny shares were made for one another. If you've been holding off on making an investment in the stockmarket as you thought it was too dodgy or the time wasn't right, there has truly never been a better time thanks to this recovery which we are beginning to enter. They're also superb for more recent, less seasoned traders without the experience who are hoping to get into the market as this is an excellent example of how strong logical software can be. There is not any reason to throw your cash away recklessly if you're certain what you are doing. People having an interest in amateur stock market dealing regularly take untrustworthy risks .

Data and clever decision making will go a great distance in the stock exchange while a clumsy mindset will certainly cause you fiscal ruin. Before making any investment choices, you need to dedicate time to studying about the stock exchange. Why risk your cash when you have not done any research? That will be stupid.

EE's new 4G LTE network put through its paces with more speed tests

You more than likely saw our recent coverage of the EE (Everything Everywhere) event where the company announced the UK's first 4G LTE network. That was pretty exciting stuff, as us poor Brits have been left behind in the LTE race compared to many other countries. Luckily EE's 4G roll out is now imminent and although we don't have an actual fixed date as yet, we're told it should be within the next few weeks.

Once again, we had the chance to play with a few 4G devices this week, including the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE, HTC One XL, Huawei Ascend P1 and the iPhone 5. But what we were more interested in was the speed of the network.

As you'll see from the video, the speeds are mighty fast. It was great to see that as well as fast download speeds, the upload too was quick. In fact the highest download speed of the session I managed to get was just over 42mbps which is faster than most people get on their home broadband.

EE are on to a real winner here. Not just because of the speeds they can offer but because they will be the first UK mobile network to launch LTE in the country. So once the new EE service rolls out they'll have a huge advantage over the other carriers. All signs point to a huge marketing campaign in the run up to the holidays.

The 13th annual World Space Week runs from Oct. 4 through Oct. 10 ? both key dates in the history of space exploration. On Oct. 4, 1957, the Soviet Union lofted?Sputnik 1, humanity's first-ever artificial satellite. And the Outer Space Treaty, which forms the basis for international space law, came into effect on Oct. 10, 1967.

World Space Week?always has a theme, and this year it's "Space for Human Safety and Security." More than 350 events spread across nearly 50 countries will highlight the ways in which humanity's space activities make daily life better for us here on Earth, organizers said.

The events cover a lot of ground, both literally and figuratively. They include an astrophotography exhibition in New Delhi, India, for example, as well as a presentation by NASA astronaut Mike Foreman in Cleveland, Ohio, about NASA's commercial crew program.?

And today, World Space Week will hold a tweetup from the International Astronautical Congress meeting in Naples, Italy. The event, which uses the hashtag #wswtweetup, begins at 12 p.m. EDT (1600 GMT). Apollo moonwalker Buzz Aldrin is slated to speak, as is Planetary Society CEO and former TV "Science Guy" Bill Nye.?[Sputnik 1, Earth's First Artificial Satellite (Photos)]

To see if any activities are happening near you over the next seven days, check outhttp://www.worldspaceweek.org/wsw/.

The United Nations established World Space Week in 1999, and the event was first held a year later. The U.N. continues to help organize the annual celebration, according to the World Space Week Association.

World Space Week has five main goals, according to its website: 1) Educate people around the globe about the benefits of spaceflight and exploration; 2) Encourage greater use of space for sustainable economic development; 3) Show that space programs enjoy public support; 4) Get young people excited about science; and 5) Encourage international cooperation in space outreach and education.

Small Business Confidence Ebbs On 'Fiscal Cliff': Survey

(Reuters) - Executives of U.S. small businesses have less confidence in the 2013 economic outlook than they did three months ago, weighed by uncertainty over the November elections and the so-called fiscal cliff, a new survey showed on Wednesday.

Vistage International, a business advisory firm, said its Vistage Confidence Index dropped to 89.0 for the July to September period, down from 92.8 during the second quarter and 105.1 in the first quarter.

The index, which stood 83.5 in the third quarter of 2011, shows the fears of the "fiscal cliff," the across-the-board spending cuts and tax raises set to take effect in the new year if Washington does not take action.

Just over half of the 1,504 CEOs surveyed said they are taking the threat of the fiscal cliff "very seriously," with another 593 taking it "somewhat seriously," Vistage said.

And 57 percent of the respondents said an expiration of the Bush-era tax cuts for those making over $250,000 per year would affect them and their business.

Over four-fifths of the executives said the $16 trillion debt burden the U.S. carries is affecting their business growth.

MORE OF THE SAME FOR 2013

Half of the CEOs said economic conditions are largely unchanged since a year ago, and 45 percent expect next year to be about the same. Still, half the executives said they expected to hire new employees over the next 12 months. Only 9 percent anticipated layoffs, and two-thirds saw a likely increase in their firms' revenues.

CEOs said economic uncertainty is the most significant business issue, with 30 percent saying it was a major concern. Another 17 percent pointed to political uncertainty, and 17 percent more said that hiring, training, and retraining staff was their biggest burden.

Politics and the overall economy overshadowed the importance of credit for the executives. Only 6 percent of those surveyed said paying or accessing credit was the biggest challenge to their business.

Most firms did not expect to increase prices, and retaining and attracting new customers was the day-to-day challenge reported by the most executives.

The survey included responses from chief executives at 1,504 small and medium-sized businesses and has a margin of error of 1.6 percentage points.
