Maternity Fashion ? Look Good and Feel Great ? Larger Family Life

By Emma Pearson

?

Just because you?re pregnant, that?s not to say you like wearing an unflattering support bra, feel good in a tent, or enjoy looking like a general frump.

Gone are the days when pregnancy automatically meant smothering layers, scratchy cardigans and floor length smocks. With glamorous and colourful garments available in beautiful textures and meticulously detailed designs, pregnant women need no longer be left on the rack when it comes to fashion.

Just because you?re carrying another life, there is no reason to lose the essence of yourself. ?Whether you?re going for cutting edge fashion or feel that flirty and feminine suits you best during pregnancy, maternity wear has never been so chic and contemporary.

Just a few months ago, model Sophia Cahill took to the catwalk completely nude whilst eight months pregnant, in a controversial yet awakening celebration of the pregnant female form.

Sophia wore nothing but a range of hats at Robyn Coles? London Fashion Week show.

Robyn wanted Sophia in her show because pregnant women rarely walk the catwalk, she said: ?I thought it would be nice that she was pregnant for the show. You never see that kind of thing in fashion.?

With so many high fashion and high street retailers offering maternity lines, it is high time that pregnancy is embraced on the catwalk.

I?m not suggesting that pregnant women ditch the clothes entirely and wear nothing but a hat, quite the opposite! It?s all about feeling comfortable and looking fantastic to get the most out of your pregnancy.

With high street retailers and designer brands all offering gorgeous maternity lines, there is something affordable for every yummy mummy-to-be.

We all know that confidence and comfort starts with underwear.? Bras in particular can become a big problem during pregnancy as a woman?s cup size can often grow two to three cup sizes larger. Specialist maternity bras are a must, as they offer full support whilst stopping any pressure against the cups. However, style doesn?t have to be compromised for comfort and support. Freya bras are a beautiful range of high quality, stylish and comfortable maternity bras that will last you the entirety of your pregnancy and beyond.

Maxi dresses are a must-have for any mum-to-be. They are flattering, stylish and comfortable, and with summer rapidly approaching, a light maxi dress is guaranteed to keep you cool and fresh in the heat. Maxi dresses are an elegant way to show off your tum. The material glides over any lumps and bumps while the floor-sweeping length instantly adds glamour and class.

Belted maternity dresses are the hottest new way to show off your maternity bump. Belts give your body definition and form and are an especially flattering look for pregnant women in their late second trimester and third trimesters.

Don?t be afraid to go for glitzy whilst pregnant. Beyonc? Knowles kept the world enthralled with her maternity wear, staying true to her signature style with her glam-but-comfy-looks. Dressing up your baby bump should be fun, whether it?s a sequinned collar to a blazer or a splash of sparkle to a wrap dress.

It is important to continue to dress for your unique body shape whilst pregnant. Bumps, breasts and hips develop differently in different women. Feeling good while you?re pregnant is mostly about finding clothes that suit you. Take some time and try on different styles. Look carefully at your body and work out which clothing styles accentuate your best bits.

Shopping for maternity wear can be tiring, so make sure you take time to relax and treat yourself. A manicure, pedicure or facial can be very therapeutic, and don?t forget to make the most of pregnancy hair! Your hair is at its healthiest whilst you are pregnant, so a good hair cut will make you feel great. Embracing pregnancy fashion and beauty is all part of embracing pregnancy, and gives you an excuse to hit the shops guilt-free!

North Korea shows off its launch pad and satellite

North Korean space officials have moved all three stages of a long-range rocket into position for a controversial launch, vowing Sunday to push ahead with their plan in defiance of international warnings against violating a ban on missile activity.

International news agencies, including The Associated Press and NBC News, were allowed a firsthand look at preparations under way at the coastal Sohae Satellite Station in northwestern North Korea.

North Korea announced plans last month to launch an observation satellite using a three-stage rocket during mid-April celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the birth of North Korean founder Kim Il Sung. The U.S., Japan, Britain and other nations have urged North Korea to cancel the launch, warning that firing the long-range rocket would violate U.N. resolutions and North Korea's promise to refrain from engaging in nuclear and missile activity.

North Korea maintains that the launch is a scientific achievement intended to improve the nation's faltering economy by providing detailed surveys of the countryside.

"Our country has the right and also the obligation to develop satellites and launching vehicles," Jang Myong Jin, general manager of the launch facility, said during a tour, citing the U.N. space treaty. "No matter what others say, we are doing this for peaceful purposes."

Potential military threat
Experts say the Unha-3 rocket, slated for liftoff between April 12 and 16, could also test long-range missile technology that might be used to strike the U.S. and other targets.

North Korea has tested two atomic devices, but is not believed to have mastered the technology needed to mount a warhead on a long-range missile.

On Sunday, reporters were taken by train past desolate fields and sleepy farming hamlets to North Korea's new launch pad in Tongchang-ri in North Phyongan province, about 35 miles (50 kilometers) south of the border town of Sinuiju along North Korea's west coast.

All three stages of the 91-ton rocket, emblazoned with the North Korean flag and "Unha-3," were in position at the towering launch pad, and fueling will begin soon, Jang said. He said preparations were well on track for liftoff and that international space, aviation and maritime authorities had been advised of the plan. Jang did not, however, provide exact details on the timing of the fueling or the mounting of the satellite.

Engineers gave reporters a peek at the 220-pound (100-kilogram) Kwangmyongsong-3 satellite due to be mounted on the rocket, as well as a tour of the command center.

About two weeks before North Korea unveiled its rocket plan, Washington announced an agreement with the North to provide it with much-needed food aid in exchange for a freeze on nuclear activity, including a moratorium on long-range missile tests. Plans to send food aid, as well as a recently revived project to conduct joint searches for the remains of U.S. military personnel killed during the Korean War, have now been suspended.

Jang denied the launch was a cover for a missile test, saying the relatively diminutive rocket and fixed Sohae station would be "useless" for sending a mobile intercontinental ballistic missile.

"During the recent senior-level North Korea-U.S. talks, our side made clear there's only a moratorium on long-range missile launches, not on satellite launches," he said. "The U.S. was well aware of this."

Japan and South Korea, meanwhile, said they are prepared to shoot down any parts of the rocket that threaten to fall in their territory ? a move North Korea's Foreign Ministry warned would be considered a declaration of war.

The launch is scheduled to take place three years after North Korea's last announced attempt to send a satellite into space, a liftoff condemned by the U.N. Security Council. North Korea walked away from nuclear disarmament negotiations in protest, and conducted an atomic test weeks later that drew tightened U.N. sanctions.

It is meant to show that North Korea has become a powerful, prosperous nation, celebrate the centenary of founder Kim Il Sung's birth, and usher in a new era under his grandson, Kim Jong Un, said Koh Yu-hwan, a professor of North Korean studies at Seoul's Dongguk University.

"North Korea needs to show some tangible achievements to its people to solidify Kim Jong Un's leadership," he said. "North Korea intends to provide its people with a sense of pride."

Power transfer
Kim Jong Un took power following the December death of his father, longtime leader Kim Jong Il, and is expected to assume more top posts during high-profile political and parliamentary meetings later this week ? a step analysts say will formally complete the country's second hereditary power transfer.

The satellite is designed to send back images and information that will be used for weather forecasts as well as surveys of North Korea's natural resources, Jang said. He said a western launch was chosen to avoid showering neighboring nations with debris.

He said two previous satellites also named Kwangmyongsong, or Bright Shining Star, were experimental, but the third will be operational.

However, Brian Weeden, a technical adviser at Secure World Foundation who is a former Air Force officer at the U.S. Space Command, questioned whether North Korea truly has the technology to successfully send a satellite into orbit.

"The end goal is to test and develop their ballistic missile program and show their people and the world that they are strong," Weeden said from Washington.

What's the difference between malware, viruses, spyware and ...

Often while we?re cleaning an infection in a client?s PC and recommending various programs to remove and prevent infections (see Security 101), we?re asked ?What?s the difference between malware, viruses, spyware and adware, and why do I need to protect myself against them with different programs?? So let?s get into it.

Malware
This definition from Wikipedia is as good as any:

Malware, short for malicious software, is software designed to disrupt computer operation, gather sensitive information, or gain unauthorized access to computer systems. Malware is a general term used to describe any kind of software ? specifically designed to exploit a computer, or the data it contains, without consent. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software.

Bottom line is, Malware is a term that encompasses all of the other forms of infection, much as the word disease encompasses many different forms of illness in living things. Disease was probably even too anthropomorphic for those who name things like computer viruses and memory after us organics! So the term covers viruses, worms, spyware and adware.
Malware fighters, such as Malwarebytes, can be run alongside other malware fighters such as adware removers, spyware removers and anti-virus programs. But it?s a generic term, and software that calls itself anti-malware may be capable of detecting a wide range of infections. However, it?s best used along with a blend of other software.

Viruses
There are some great descriptions of viruses out there already, so instead of reinventing the wheel, here?s a detailed description of the different types of viruses, how they work and what they do. It?s from a government document called Computer Security Incident Handling Guide: Recommendations of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. You can read the complete document here:

http://csrc.nist.gov/publications/nistpubs/800-61-rev1/SP800-61rev1.pdf

but here?s the part that deals with viruses. Wake me up when you?re done reading, and I?ll summarize.

A virus is designed to self-replicate?make copies of itself?and distribute the copies to other files, programs, or computers. Viruses insert themselves into host programs and propagate when the infected program is executed, generally by user interaction (e.g., opening a file, running a program, clicking on a file attachment). Viruses have many purposes?some are designed to play annoying tricks, whereas others have destructive intent. Some viruses present themselves as jokes while performing secret destructive functions. There two major types of viruses are compiled viruses, which are executed by the operating system, and interpreted viruses, which are executed by an application.
Compiled viruses typically fall into one of the following three categories:

File Infector Viruses. File infector viruses attach themselves to executable programs, such as word processors, spreadsheet applications and computer games. When they have infected a program, they propagate to infect other programs on the system and on other systems that use a shared infected program. The virus may also reside in the system?s memory, so that each time a new program is executed, the virus infects the program. Another method of file infector execution involves the virus modifying the manner in which the computer opens a file, rather than modifying the actual program running the file. In this scenario, the virus executes first, and then the program is run. Jerusalem and Cascade are two of the best-known file infector viruses.92

Boot Sector Viruses. A boot sector virus infects the master boot record (MBR) of a hard drive or the boot sector of removable media, such as floppy diskettes. The boot sector is an area at the beginning of a drive or disk where information about its structure is stored. Boot sectors contain boot programs that are run at host startup to boot the operating system. The MBR of a hard drive is a unique location on the disk where a computer?s basic input/output system (BIOS) can locate and load the boot program. Removable media such as floppy disks need not be bootable to infect the system; if an infected disk is in the drive when the computer boots, the virus could be executed. Boot sector viruses are easily concealed, have a high rate of success, and can harm a computer to the point of making it completely inoperable. Symptoms of a boot sector virus infection include a computer that displays an error message during booting or cannot boot. Form, Michelangelo, and Stoned are examples of boot sector viruses.

Multipartite Viruses. A multipartite virus uses multiple infection methods, typically infecting both files and boot sectors. Accordingly, multipartite viruses combine the characteristics of file infector and boot sector viruses. Examples of multipartite viruses include Flip and Invader.

Unlike compiled viruses, which can be executed by an OS, interpreted viruses are composed of source code that can be executed only by a particular application or service. Interpreted viruses have become very common because they are much easier to write and modify than other types of viruses. The two major types of interpreted viruses are as follows:
Macro Viruses. Macro viruses are the most prevalent and successful type of virus. They attach themselves to application documents, such as word processing files and spreadsheets, and use the application?s macro programming language to execute and propagate. Many popular software packages, such as Microsoft Office, use macro programming languages to automate complex or repetitive tasks, and attackers have taken advantage of these capabilities. Macro viruses tend to spread quickly because users frequently share documents from applications with macro capabilities. Furthermore, when a macro virus infection occurs, the virus also infects the template that the program uses to create and open files. Consequently, every document that is created or opened with the infected template is also infected. The Concept, Marker, and Melissa viruses are well-known examples of macro viruses.

Scripting Viruses. Scripting viruses are very similar to macro viruses. The primary difference is that a macro virus is written in a language understood by a particular application, such as a word processor, whereas a scripting virus is written in a language understood by a service run by the OS. Examples of well-known scripting viruses are First and Love Stages.
??????
Zzzzzzzzzzzzz ?hmm? Oh, done already? Hey, did you skim or skip?!! Can?t say I blame you. It?s pretty dry stuff. So lets summarize:

There?s some nasty stuff out there. Period. Bad people out to getcha. Evil Bart with a keyboard in his hands. Long story short, a virus is code that replicates itself and does bad things to your hard drive. Destroys data. Messes up your programs. You know, ruins your day.

The best way to protect yourself is to keep a great anti-virus program running and up-to-date at all times. Only one anti-virus program should run at a time, as they may start fighting each other and slow your PC down. So make it a good one. (Our recommendation is in the article mentioned above, Security 101). Let?s move on.

Worms
Starting to wish you never asked? OK, we?ll try to keep it brief. Here?s the government?s take on worms:

Worms are self-replicating programs that are completely self-contained, meaning they do not require a host program to infect a victim. Worms are also self-propagating; unlike viruses, they can create fully functional copies and execute themselves without user intervention. Worms take advantage of known vulnerabilities and configuration weaknesses, such as unsecured Windows shares. Although some worms are intended mainly to waste system and network resources, many worms damage systems by installing backdoors, perform DDoS attacks against other hosts, or perform other malicious acts.
So, worms are basically a sub-genre of viruses and are usually handled by the same anti-virus software. But some anti-malware programs also detect and clean these.
Getting clearer? Alright, let?s plunge onward.

Trojan Horses
Take it away, Uncle Sam:

Named after the wooden horse from Greek mythology, Trojan horses are non-replicating programs that appear to be benign but actually have a hidden malicious purpose. Some Trojan horses are intended to replace existing files with malicious versions, whereas other Trojan horses add another application to a system without overwriting existing files. Trojan horses are often difficult to detect because they appear to be performing a useful function.

The use of Trojan horses to distribute spyware programs has become increasingly common. Spyware is often bundled with software, such as certain peer-to-peer file sharing client programs; when the user installs the supposedly benign software, it then covertly installs spyware programs. Trojan horses also often deliver other types of attacker tools onto systems, which can provide unauthorized access to or usage of infected systems. These tools may be bundled with the Trojan horse or downloaded by the Trojan horse after it is placed onto a system and run.

Trojans are sometimes planted on your PC, but are only dangerous if you don?t have a firewall, and a hacker is able to identify your PC via ?pinging? a large range of IP addresses. If you use a router, you have a hardware firewall, so don?t worry about it. If you don?t, make sure your windows firewall is turned on.

Spyware and Adware

Let?s go back to Wikipedia for this one:

Spyware is a type of malware (malicious software) installed on computers that collects information about users without their knowledge. The presence of spyware is typically hidden from the user and can be difficult to detect. Spyware is often secretly installed on a user?s personal computer without their knowledge. However, some spyware such as keyloggers may be installed by the owner of a shared, corporate, or public computer on purpose in order to intentionally monitor users.
While the term spyware suggests software that monitors a user?s computing, the functions of spyware can extend beyond simple monitoring. Spyware can collect almost any type of data, including personal information like Internet surfing habits, user logins, and bank or credit account information. Spyware can also interfere with user control of a computer by installing additional software or redirecting Web browsers. Some spyware can change computer settings, resulting in slow Internet connection speeds, un-authorized changes in browser settings or functionality of other software.
Adware, or advertising-supported software, is any software package which automatically renders advertisements. These advertisements can be in the form of a pop-up. They may also be in the user interface of the software or on a screen presented to the user during the installation process. The object of the Adware is to generate revenue for its author. Adware, by itself, is harmless; however, some adware may come with integrated spyware such as keyloggers and other privacy-invasive software.
Advertising functions are integrated into or bundled with the software, which is often designed to note what Internet sites the user visits and to present advertising pertinent to the types of goods or services featured there. Adware is usually seen by the developer as a way to recover development costs, and in some cases it may allow the software to be provided to the user free of charge or at a reduced price. The income derived from presenting advertisements to the user may allow or motivate the developer to continue to develop, maintain and upgrade the software product. Conversely, the advertisements may be seen by the user as interruptions or annoyances, or as distractions from the task at hand.

So that?s it. Basically, it?s all bad stuff and the specifics really don?t matter to most users. To protect yourself, check out two of our blog entries: Security 101 and Backup your data.

Isn't it 'marvelous?' Obama seeks to define Romney for voters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - When President Barack Obama criticized Mitt Romney by name this week for embracing a controversial Republican budget proposal, he worded his attack carefully and with bite.

"(Romney) said that he's 'very supportive' of this new budget, and he even called it 'marvelous' -- which is a word you don't often hear when it comes to describing a budget," Obama said during a speech on Tuesday, before adding:

"It's a word you don't often hear generally."

The desired effect was clear: tie Romney directly to mostly unpopular plans for budget cuts and emphasize that the former executive is out of touch by lampooning his use of a seemingly out of date adjective.

After watching quietly while Republican candidates fought each other, Obama is now trying to define his likely opponent in November as an out-of-touch multi-millionaire who would cut social programs for the elderly and the middle class while promoting policies to help the rich.

Obama's riff on Romney's use of the word "marvelous" to describe Representative Paul Ryan's budget plans carried a subtle message.

"It's a word you kind of associate with the upper class, and I think that the intention was to tweak Romney for being wealthy and, you know, sort of brought up in the kinds of circles where they would say ?marvelous,'" said Kenneth Sherrill, a political science expert at New York's Hunter College.

"That's trying to get under his skin a little bit."

The attack - which Obama repeated at a fundraiser on Thursday night - is a sign of things to come.

Obama's campaign has worked steadily to construct an image of an insensitive and patrician Romney even before he wins the Republican nomination, hoping to create a caricature that sticks with voters once the election officially becomes a two-man race.

Romney has made similar efforts to define Obama, portraying him as unprepared and unable to handle the country's economic challenges. And he began the process earlier, deliberately focusing his critiques on the president rather than the other Republican challengers.

The back and forth is a foreshadowing of what is likely to be a very nasty campaign. Hunter College's Sherrill said both candidates were likely to get very negative.

"This will be a spectacularly aggressive and negative campaign in the general election," he said. "I think that the principals - the candidates themselves - are going to go after one another pretty strongly."

NASTY CAMPAIGN AHEAD

Yet former constitutional law lecturer Obama can only go so far with charges that Romney is an elitist.

"It looks to me like what Obama's trying to do is two things: one is run on class warfare ... and (two) just demonize his opponent," said Charlie Black, a former adviser to 2008 Republican nominee John McCain who is now advising Romney.

"A president who's also wealthy and went to Harvard is not going to win on class warfare."

Obama's campaign is already drawing contrasts in areas where it perceives Republicans to be weak. Obama regularly brings up his support for immigration reform at political fundraisers, a dig at Romney's hard line against illegal immigration.

Hispanics, who could provide the swing votes needed to win battleground states such as Colorado and Nevada, largely back Obama in polls.

His campaign is also targeting women, another critical voting bloc that Democrats want in their column.

Obama spoke at a conveniently timed forum on women and the economy at the White House on Friday, making reference to influential women in his life as well as his appointment of two women to the Supreme Court.

This line seems to be working. Polls show support for Obama among women is increasing, while Republicans have lost ground due to conservative stances on birth control.

On healthcare, Obama advisers gleefully describe the president's 2010 reform law as modeled on Romney's own effort in Massachusetts, reminding conservative Republicans of the candidate's moderate past

Obama will also bring renewed attention on Tuesday to the so-called "Buffet rule," a measure to raise taxes on the wealthy, which Republicans oppose.

"Obama's smart enough to know ... (that) many people in the public are perceiving Romney as an elitist who does not have sympathy for workers or the poor," said Mark Rom, an associate professor of government at Georgetown University.

"Anything he can do to reinforce that image, he'll take the opportunity to do."

But with unemployment still high and job creation advancing only slowly, Republicans see an opening, no matter how much Obama defines himself as a middle class champion.

"Middle class voters want to see economic growth and more jobs. They're anxious about the future of our economy," said Romney adviser Kevin Madden.

"Middle-class Americans have lost faith in President Obama because his basic message in this economic slowdown is that 8 percent unemployment is the new normal, and other rising cost pressures like high gas prices and rising health care costs are all someone else's fault."
